Signs of Trouble in the House
Why does my toilet keep clogging?
Having to deal with a clogged toilet every time can be a real nightmare. Whenever your toilet clogs, it’s crucial to get to the root cause of the problem. Here are some possible reasons why your toilet keeps clogging.
- You have an older toilet that just can’t handle a lot of flushes
- You have fill valve issues that prevent the tank from filling with enough water
- Possible pipe blockages beyond the toilet
- A damaged or blockade plumbing vent
- Sewage line issues
What are the warning signs of a clogged drain?
A clogged drain is one of the most common plumbing problems you will encounter as a homeowner. Your drain can become clogged for a wide range of reasons, and it can be a pain to fix. But how do you know that your drain is clogged? Some of the most common warning signs of a clogged drain include
- A strange odor coming from your drains
- Your drains gurgle
- Slow draining
- Unexplained puddles in your yard
- A toilet that doesn’t flush
If you have any of the above symptoms, call American Eagle Plumbing, Inc. to prevent potential damage to your ceilings, walls, floors, or personal belongings.
Why is my water heater making weird noises?
The most common reason for a noisy water heater is a sediment buildup in the bottom of the hot water tank. The noise results when the hot water bubbles up through the sediment in the tank’s bottom. You can prevent sediment buildup by installing a water softener to eliminate the sediment that builds up in your tank or flushing the water heater out periodically.
If ignored, the sediment buildup can lead to bigger, more costly problems. In the worst-case scenario, the bottom of the tank can rust out and start leaking. Once the tank begins to leak, your only option is to replace the water heater.
What should I do if I smell natural gas in my house?
If you notice a “rotten egg” smell in your home, you might have a gas line leak. Here are a few safety guidelines to follow:
- Shut gas valves off
- Don’t use your phone until you’re safely away from the suspected source of the leak
- Don’t use any open flames or smoke
- Don’t turn any electric appliances on or off
- Don’t attempt to locate the leak on your own
- Get a safe distance away from the house, then call 911 and your local utility company
- If you damaged your natural gas line when digging outside, for example, call the utility company right away. Don’t try to fix the line yourself
Preventing a gas leak is as easy as ensuring proper gas line installation by licensed professionals and scheduling annual gas line inspections
Why is my water pressure so low?
Low water pressure can result from several factors. Maybe you have old pipes that are clogging your plumbing system. The street water that’s being provided to you might be low. You may be using a well that doesn’t have much water. You can increase the water volume by replacing the old pipes that are clogging your system, fixing the well situation, or installing booster pumps.

Home Care Learning & Tips
How do garbage disposals work?
Contrary to popular belief, garbage disposals don’t work like a blender. While they have some similarities to blenders, a garbage disposal doesn’t even have blades. In fact, there’s no chewing, cutting, or chopping involved.
Once you turn on your disposal, a small plate with teeth or shredding impellers starts to rotate at high speed. The plate is located at the bottom of the “grinding chamber” and helps to create the centrifugal force necessary to propel the scraps of food against the chamber’s internal walls. The walls grind the food down into tiny particles that can flow down the drain.
What should and shouldn’t go in the garbage disposal?
Garbage disposals will only break up soft items. It’s okay to put soft foods such as vegetable scraps, cooked meat, fruit scraps, and corn cobs in the disposal. Eggshells, coffee grounds, bones, or any other tough products will wear the disposal’s impellers or teeth and jam it.
Make a habit of running water to the garbage disposal every time you use it. That helps to break down and flush the foods the foods down the drain. If you have any issues with your garbage disposal, call the plumbing experts at American Eagle Plumbing. Our team is always happy to help.
How do I prevent my pipes from freezing?
Poor insulation, rapid temperature drops, and improperly set thermostats are the major culprits when it comes to frozen pipes. As a homeowner, you can follow a few preventative maintenance steps to prevent frozen pipes before the winter cold begins. Some of the tips to consider include:
- Insulate the pipes in your home’s crawl spaces and attic
- Disconnect garden hoses and use an indoor valve
- Keep the heat on
- Apply heating tape
- Add extra insulation
- Seal up holes and cracks where pipes run through floors or walls
How do I prepare for a bathroom renovation project?
You can start preparing for your bathroom renovation by getting an idea of the type of look and style you want. If you’re not yet sure, seek design ideas and inspiration from some websites, magazines, or home remodeling shows. Feel free to contact us for a design consultation with our remodeling experts
Generally speaking, you’ll want to clear out all your personal belongings that can be removed from the work area, before construction begins. Although our team will cover the areas surrounding the work area, there’s no harm in using sheets and/or plastic to protect your furniture from dust.
Water Heaters & Filtration
What is the best water heater for me to purchase?
When the time comes to replace or install a new water heater, the market has plenty of options. The most crucial factors to consider when choosing a water heater are:
- Your future water demands
- The usage and size of your household
- How long you plan on staying in your current home
You want to do a little research and investigate your options before making a final purchase. High efficiency and tankless water heaters are increasingly gaining popularity for their water and energy-saving benefits. Traditional tank water heaters, on the other hand, come in various sizes and offer gas, electric, or propane types. Our water heater installation experts will be happy to discuss your options and help you choose the most suitable unit for your needs.
What size tankless water heater do I need?
Everyone’s water heater needs vary, so the size of tankless water heater you need depends on several factors. You should consider the rate of water flow in your house, your house size, temperature rise, among other factors. Try to get a rough estimate of how much water you use, then call American Eagle Plumbing to install a tankless water heater that meets your family’s needs.
Why is water softening applied?
Water softening is a critical process because it reduces the hardness of the water in households and commercial establishments. When you have hard water, soap will have a hard time dissolving in it, and it can clog pipes. Water softening can prevent these adverse effects.
Hard water causes a higher risk of limescale buildup in household water systems. The limescale deposits block pipes and reduce the efficiency of hot water tanks and boilers. This can increase the cost of water heating by up to twenty percent. Water softening means extending the lifespan of household machines and pipelines.
What is a whole house water filtration system?
Whole house water filtration systems treat water to make it cleaner and easier to drink for the entire home. It’s typically installed at the main water line, so every fixture in your home receives treated water. Installing a whole-house filter can solve various problems affecting the appearance, taste, and quality of your water. Additional benefits of a whole house water filter include:
- Extended life of household pipes and water-using appliances
- Healthier skin and hair
- Softer, longer-lasting, and brighter clothing
- Healthier baths and showers
- Softened water with spotless glasses and scale-free showers
